Dalallador
Weirdly inexplicable split album which exists in its own unique temporal zone, owing nothing to nobody, not even the people that compiled it.What possessed Eva to compile two completely different sounding bands, from (slightly) different eras and from different parts of the US and shoe-horn them onto this album? There's absolutely nothing that links these bands (if there is and I've missed something please let me know). The E-Types come at you in a psych-ish, garagey, bubblegum pop style. Don't get me wrong - they were great and I love them. Put the Clock Back On the Wall is one of the best pop songs from the '60s >periodThe Mystic Tide are a different proposition. It's now 1967 and dark clouds have gathered over the New York City apartment where Joe Docko cooked up these strange and strung-out drug-induced tales. Check out Psychedelic Journey - it's over nine minutes long - pretty far-out for '67. The other tracks are more your short-sharp-shock treatments - but Running Through the Night is a palpable classic coupling a great song with a really vicious guitar sound.Eva records definitely had access to other Mystic Tide tracks - like Mystery Ship and Mystic Eyes - that turn up on their Finest Hours of US 60s Punk compilation... but maybe they didn't have quite enough for a whole Mystic Tide album - hence this curious E-Types/ Mystic Tide hybrid.Distortions records put out a neat 18 track compilation of The Mystic Tide - 'Solid Sound... Solid Ground' http://www.discogs.com/Mystic-Tide-The-Solid-SoundSolidGround/release/1472282 so if you want to hear their whole oeuvre then that is the one to get (only cd I think though).Despite all that - this record is a good collection of garage punk/psychedelia and when it came out in 1983 there wasn't any other way of hearing this stuff so back then it fulfilled a vital function sure enough.
