Revisiting Twin Peaks and dream pop in general led me to look into Johnny Jewel, and I'm shocked it took me up to this point to notice him. His contributions went as far as Nicolas Winding Refn's "Drive" via his main band Chromatics and his score for Ryan Gosling's "Lost River", yet it's the revival season of Twin Peaks that my mind clicked. A couple of his tracks from the mini-series aren't the same arrangements for this album, but for his Chromatics version of "Saturday", I actually prefer the more pop-ballad take. The songs on Windswept is very much a tribute to the show, and because of that, the lucid and often haunting melodies have put me in a nostalgic mood, with "Between Worlds" being the most transcendental track of this list.I wish I could be as enthusiast for the overall quality of the record itself. The jacket and custom sleeve is top-notch for an LP with an acceptable price range. However, I suspect the plates were misaligned when pressing a record, because my copy is off-center only on Side B. Therefore, I'm getting pitching issues that affect the tracks on the inner grooves, and because the tonearm moves in broader waves than normal, the needle's more prone to hitting the walls resulting in audible clicks. Virtually the same issues that affected my copy of Vektroid's Floral Shoppe, although not as explicit. That kind of pegs the release down for me, even though the album itself is very much worth my attention.
